The GSM operators in the country added 13.7 million users, taking the total number of GSM users to 394.2 million as on January 30, 2010. Bharti Airtel, the country’s number one operator both in terms of subscriber numbers and revenues, added 2.85 million new mobile subscribers in January, according to data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

The cellular operators’ associations have urged Noida authorities to restore cellular communication services by de-sealing the towers. The associations – Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) and Association of United Service Providers of India (AUSPI) – have also sought maintaining of status quo on the issue, till the telecom regulator comes out with a consultation paper on setting up of towers.
