The Empowered Group of Ministers (eGoM) is slated to meet on Tuesday to decide on the allocation of third generation (3G) radio frequency for all the 22 circles in the country. Earlier on Monday, according to a draft Notice Inviting Applications (NIA), the government was planning to auction 3 slots of 3G spectrum.
From January all mobile phone numbers will move over to 11 digits, from the present 10 digits, following an amendment in the National Numbering Plan 2003 by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Subscribers will have to pre-fix a ‘9’ to their current numbers for the new 11 digit numbers, according to reports in various newspapers.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will conduct auctions for 3G spectrum across 22 telecom circles in the country on January 14, 2010. A pre-bid conference would be held on November 16, 2009, according to information posted on DoT’s website. The revised auction date is over two weeks later than the original plan announced by the Empowered Group of Ministers (eGoM).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today searched Department of Telecommunications (DoT) office at Sanchar Bhawan in New Delhi to collect documents in connection with awarding of 2G licences. The national investigation agency conducted searches at DoT’s Wireless Planning Cell (WPC) and Deputy Director General for Access Services offices.
