Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) will expand and upgrade Bharti Airtel’s, India’s number one telecom services provider, 2.5 G network by 50 per cent across circles, under a $700-million GSM network contract signed between the companies. The contract includes network planning, implementation and project management, handling of local logistics and materials, and system integration for the base transceiver stations.
Bharti Airtel has launched a mobile applications store, Airtel App Central, which enables its subscribers to transform basic phones into high-end devices by downloading over 1,250 applications. These applications – both free and paid – are categorised under business, games, books, social networking and other needs.

Bharti Airtel Ltd, India’s largest telecom operator by subscriber numbers, has acquired a 70 per cent stake in Bangladesh’s Warid Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi’s Dhabi Group. Under the agreement, Bharti Airtel will make a fresh investment of $300 million to expand Warid Telecom’s operations, while it will get management and board control of the company.
