In spite of the financial downturn which has impacted telecom investments, wireless broadband Internet deployments based on WiMAX technology have reached 519 in 146 countries. This includes 95 WiMAX networks deployed by 2G mobile operators.

Every six months of delay in auctioning process of WiMAX spectrum will translate into a loss of $1 billion to the country’s economy, according to the WiMax Forum, while the not-for-profit organisation has also asked the government to auction spectrum as on schedule in January 2010.
