Idea Cellular has signed a multi-year agreement to sponsor the current Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Deccan Chargers of Hyderabad. The Adiyta Birla group will be principal partner of the cricket team, starting with the third edition of IPL T20 cricket tournament, scheduled to start in March.

Aditya Birla Group telecom service provider Idea Cellular Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 218.38 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009, down 23.11 per cent, from Rs 284.01 crore recorded during the same period a year ago. The GSM operator’s total income rose to Rs 2923.54 crore for the quarter under review, as against Rs 2606.45 crore recorded in the comparable quarter of previous financial year, according to a statement issued to BSE.

Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group company, has launched GSM services in the north eastern state of Assam. The company will launch services in other circles of North East, in Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, by later this year.
